AI REFINEMENT PORTFOLIO — Before/After Samples

Olufemi Adegboyega | Senior Content Marketing Manager

SAMPLE 1: Blog Post Intro — Product Launch Announcement

BEFORE (Raw AI Output)

"In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, the launch of our innovative new product represents a significant milestone in the journey toward enhanced user experiences. This groundbreaking solution has been meticulously designed to address the multifaceted challenges that modern consumers face on a daily basis. By leveraging cutting-edge technology and user-centric design principles, we have created a product that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of our discerning customer base. The comprehensive suite of features ensures that users can seamlessly navigate their workflows while maximizing productivity and efficiency. As we embark on this exciting new chapter, we remain committed to delivering exceptional value and fostering long-term relationships with our valued customers."

AFTER (Refined, Publication-Ready)

"We built this because our users kept asking for it.

Over the past six months, we talked to 40+ teams about what was slowing them down. The answer was almost always the same: too many tools, not enough connection between them. So we built one place where your work actually lives together.

Here's what's different: instead of bolting on another integration, we rebuilt the core workflow from scratch. Your data, your tasks, your team — one view, no switching tabs. Early testers cut their daily tool-switching from 12 times to 3.

This isn't a feature update. It's a different way of working. And it's available today."

EDITORIAL NOTES

  • Removed AI "tells": "In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape," "groundbreaking," "meticulously designed," "multifaceted challenges," "cutting-edge technology," "user-centric design principles," "comprehensive suite," "seamlessly navigate," "embark on this exciting new chapter," "valued customers" — all generic, robotic phrasing.
  • Replaced with specifics: Real user research (40+ teams), concrete problem (tool-switching), measurable outcome (12 to 3), clear value proposition.
  • Structure: AI draft was one long paragraph of abstractions. Refined version uses short paragraphs, a hook, evidence, and a clear CTA.
  • Tone: Shifted from corporate marketing-speak to direct, conversational, human.

SAMPLE 2: Community Post (Discord/Forum Style) — Feature Announcement

BEFORE (Raw AI Output)

"Hello community! We are thrilled to announce the release of our latest feature update, which brings a host of exciting new capabilities to enhance your experience on our platform. This update includes several improvements that have been carefully designed based on your valuable feedback. We believe that these enhancements will significantly improve your workflow and overall satisfaction. We encourage you to explore the new features and share your thoughts with us. Your continued support and engagement are what drive us to keep innovating and improving. Thank you for being part of our community!"

AFTER (Refined, Publication-Ready)

"New update is live. Here's what changed and why.

What shipped:

  • Dark mode (finally). Toggle it in Settings → Appearance.
  • Bulk export: select multiple items, hit Export, get a CSV. No more one-at-a-time.
  • Search now covers comments, not just titles. If you remember a keyword from a thread, you'll find it.

Why these three: They were the top 3 requests in last month's feedback thread (47 upvotes on dark mode alone). We prioritized by volume + effort, not by what sounded cool.

What's next: Threaded replies are in progress. No ETA yet, but it's the #1 item on the roadmap.

Try the new stuff and tell me what breaks. I'll be in the thread all day."

EDITORIAL NOTES

  • Removed AI "tells": "Hello community!", "We are thrilled to announce," "host of exciting new capabilities," "carefully designed based on your valuable feedback," "significantly improve," "continued support and engagement," "drive us to keep innovating" — all generic community-management clichés.
  • Replaced with specifics: Exact feature names, navigation paths, request volume (47 upvotes), prioritization logic, next steps with honest ETA.
  • Structure: AI draft was one block of vague enthusiasm. Refined version uses headers, bullet points, and a conversational closing that invites engagement.
  • Tone: Shifted from corporate announcement to a real person talking to their community.

SAMPLE 3: Client Recap Email — Performance Update

BEFORE (Raw AI Output)

"Dear Valued Client, I hope this email finds you well. I am writing to provide you with a comprehensive update on the performance of your recent campaigns. Overall, we have observed positive trends across key metrics, with notable improvements in engagement and conversion rates. Our team has been diligently monitoring the campaigns and implementing strategic optimizations to ensure maximum return on investment. We are pleased to report that the campaigns are performing in line with expectations, and we continue to identify opportunities for further enhancement. Please find the detailed metrics below, and do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We appreciate your continued partnership and look forward to achieving even greater results together."

AFTER (Refined, Publication-Ready)

"Hi [Client Name],

Quick recap on last week's performance:

What went well:

  • Spend paced at 98% of budget (no overspend, no underspend)
  • CPA came in at $14.20, down 8% from last week's $15.43
  • CTR on the new creative set hit 2.1% — up from 1.4% on the old set

What we changed:

  • Retired 3 underperforming ad groups (CPA above $22)
  • Refreshed copy on the top 2 ad groups with new headlines
  • Shifted $200/day from the low-performing campaign to the high-performing one

What to watch:

  • CVR dipped slightly (3.2% → 2.9%) on mobile. Likely a landing page issue, not an ad issue. We're flagging this to your team.

Next week: We'll test 2 new creative angles and monitor the mobile CVR fix.

Let me know if you want to jump on a quick call to go through any of this."

EDITORIAL NOTES

  • Removed AI "tells": "Dear Valued Client," "I hope this email finds you well," "comprehensive update," "positive trends," "diligently monitoring," "strategic optimizations," "performing in line with expectations," "do not hesitate to reach out," "continued partnership," "achieving even greater results together" — all generic, robotic email language.
  • Replaced with specifics: Exact metrics (98% pacing, $14.20 CPA, 2.1% CTR), specific actions taken (retired 3 ad groups, shifted $200/day), identified risk (mobile CVR dip), clear next steps.
  • Structure: AI draft was one paragraph of vague positivity. Refined version uses headers, bullet points, and a conversational closing.
  • Tone: Shifted from formal corporate email to a real person giving a real update.

SAMPLE 4: Thought Leadership Piece — Industry Insight

BEFORE (Raw AI Output)

"In the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing, the importance of data-driven decision-making cannot be overstated. As businesses navigate the complexities of an increasingly competitive marketplace, the ability to leverage analytics and insights has become paramount. Organizations that embrace a culture of continuous optimization and evidence-based strategy are better positioned to achieve sustainable growth and maintain a competitive edge. By integrating advanced analytics tools and fostering a data-literate workforce, companies can unlock new opportunities for innovation and drive meaningful business outcomes. The future of marketing belongs to those who can transform raw data into actionable intelligence."

AFTER (Refined, Publication-Ready)

"Most marketing teams have more data than they know what to do with. The problem isn't collection — it's decision-making.

Here's what I've seen work: pick three metrics that actually matter to your business (not 30), check them daily, and make one change at a time. That's it.

The teams that struggle are the ones running 15 dashboards, reviewing 40 KPIs weekly, and changing five things at once. When results move, they can't tell which change caused it. When results don't move, they don't know what to fix.

I've watched a team cut their reporting from 12 dashboards to 3 and increase their optimization speed by 40% — not because they had less data, but because they had less noise.

The future of marketing isn't more data. It's fewer, better decisions."

EDITORIAL NOTES

  • Removed AI "tells": "In the ever-evolving landscape," "cannot be overstated," "navigate the complexities," "increasingly competitive marketplace," "paramount," "embrace a culture of," "evidence-based strategy," "sustainable growth," "competitive edge," "unlock new opportunities," "drive meaningful business outcomes," "transform raw data into actionable intelligence" — every sentence is a cliché.
  • Replaced with specifics: A concrete observation (3 metrics, not 30), a real example (12 dashboards to 3, 40% speed increase), a clear thesis.
  • Structure: AI draft was one paragraph of abstract platitudes. Refined version uses short paragraphs, a specific example, and a punchy conclusion.
  • Tone: Shifted from corporate thought leadership to a practitioner sharing real observations.

SAMPLE 5: Product/Feature Description — Onboarding Flow

BEFORE (Raw AI Output)

"Our innovative onboarding experience has been thoughtfully designed to provide users with a seamless and intuitive introduction to our platform. By leveraging personalized guidance and interactive elements, we ensure that new users can quickly familiarize themselves with the key features and functionalities of our product. The streamlined process minimizes friction and reduces the time-to-value, allowing users to achieve their goals more efficiently. Through a combination of educational content, progressive disclosure, and contextual help, we empower users to become proficient with our platform in a matter of minutes. Our commitment to user success is reflected in every aspect of the onboarding journey, from the initial welcome screen to the final activation milestone."

AFTER (Refined, Publication-Ready)

"New users go from signup to first value in under 3 minutes.

Here's how:

  1. Sign up — email or Google. No 8-field form.
  2. Pick your use case — we show you 3 paths based on what you selected. Not 15 options.
  3. First action — we walk you through one thing that matters for your path. Not a tour of every feature.
  4. Done — you've created your first [item]. Everything else is optional and discoverable later.

We tested this against our old 7-step onboarding. Completion rate went from 41% to 78%. Time-to-first-value dropped from 12 minutes to 2.5 minutes.

The old flow tried to teach everything. The new flow teaches one thing and gets out of the way."

EDITORIAL NOTES

  • Removed AI "tells": "Innovative onboarding experience," "thoughtfully designed," "seamless and intuitive introduction," "leveraging personalized guidance," "minimizes friction," "reduces time-to-value," "streamlined process," "empower users," "proficient," "commitment to user success," "reflected in every aspect" — all generic product marketing language.
  • Replaced with specifics: Exact steps (4 steps), exact metrics (41%→78% completion, 12 min→2.5 min), specific design decisions (3 paths not 15, one action not a full tour).
  • Structure: AI draft was one paragraph of feature descriptions. Refined version uses numbered steps, metrics, and a clear design philosophy.
  • Tone: Shifted from marketing copy to a product team sharing what they built and why.

COMMUNITY GROWTH CASE STUDY

Flock.io — AI Developer Community Segmentation and Growth

Prepared by: Olufemi Adegboyega

Role: Product Manager - AI Platforms

Period: 07/2023 - 12/2023

Platform: Flock.io (AI development platform for decentralized ML models)

OVERVIEW

Researched AI developer communities for unmet segments, built personas, targeted campaigns off the findings, and measured engagement. The process was adopted across community strategy.

CHALLENGE

Flock.io needed to grow its AI developer community but lacked data on which segments were underserved and what messaging would resonate. The existing approach was broad outreach with no segmentation.

APPROACH

1. Research Phase

  • Researched AI developer communities across Discord, Telegram, Twitter/X, and GitHub
  • Identified unmet segments: developers interested in decentralized ML but not yet engaged with Flock.io's platform
  • Conducted user discovery conversations to understand pain points, motivations, and content preferences
  • Built detailed personas for each segment

2. Segmentation

  • Created 3-4 distinct developer personas based on:
  • Technical skill level (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
  • Use case (model training, inference, data labeling, research)
  • Platform preference (Discord, Twitter/X, GitHub, forums)
  • Engagement style (lurker, contributor, builder, advocate)

3. Campaign Targeting

  • Targeted campaigns to each segment with tailored messaging
  • Created segment-specific content (tutorials, AMAs, technical deep-dives)
  • Adjusted channel strategy per segment (Discord for builders, Twitter/X for advocates, GitHub for contributors)

4. Measurement

  • Tracked user growth, engagement rates, and conversion per segment
  • Monitored DAU, retention, and community health metrics
  • Iterated on messaging and channel strategy based on performance data

AI PROMPT ENGINEERING PLAYBOOK

Methodology, Rubrics, and Before/After Examples

Prepared by: Olufemi Adegboyega

Role: Prompt Engineering Product Specialist, Prompt Wizard (08/2023 - 12/2024)

OVERVIEW

This playbook documents the methodology I developed for designing, testing, and refining AI prompts and output evaluation systems. It covers prompt architecture, RLHF A/B testing, output rubric design, and the editorial refinement process for transforming AI-generated drafts into publication-ready content.

PROMPT ARCHITECTURE FRAMEWORK

1. Prompt Design Principles

  • Clarity over cleverness: Prompts should be unambiguous. Avoid vague instructions like "write something good."
  • Context first: Provide role, audience, tone, and format before the task.
  • Constraints explicit: State what NOT to do (no jargon, no clichés, no filler).
  • Examples over descriptions: Show, don't tell. Include 1-2 examples of desired output.
  • Iterative refinement: Start broad, test, narrow based on failure modes.

2. Prompt Template Structure

```
Role: [Who the AI is acting as]
Audience: [Who will read the output]
Tone: [Formal/casual/conversational/technical]
Format: [Blog post/email/community post/etc.]
Task: [Specific instruction]
Constraints: [What to avoid]
Examples: [1-2 samples of desired output]
```

3. RLHF A/B Testing Methodology

  • Baseline: Run prompt v1 on 50+ test cases, score with rubric
  • Variant: Modify one variable (instruction wording, example quality, constraint specificity)
  • Test: Run variant on same 50+ test cases
  • Score: Compare accuracy, quality, and creation time
  • Iterate: Keep winner, modify next variable
  • Result: 200+ templates tested, accuracy +20%, creation time -50%

4. Output Evaluation Rubric

CriterionWeightDescription
Accuracy30%Factually correct, no hallucinations
Tone match20%Matches brand voice and audience expectations
Structure15%Clear organization, scannable, logical flow
Conciseness15%No filler, no redundancy, right length
AI "tell" detection10%No generic phrases, clichés, or robotic patterns
Actionability10%Clear next steps, specific recommendations

5. AI "Tell" Detection Checklist

Common AI-generated phrases to eliminate:

  • "In today's rapidly evolving landscape..."
  • "It's important to note that..."
  • "Delve into," "tapestry," "multifaceted," "comprehensive suite"
  • "Seamlessly," "leverage," "empower," "unlock"
  • "We are thrilled to announce," "exciting new chapter"
  • "Do not hesitate to reach out," "continued partnership"
  • "Drive meaningful outcomes," "transform raw data into actionable intelligence"
  • Generic enthusiasm without specifics
  • Long paragraphs of abstractions with no concrete examples
  • Every sentence being a cliché

6. Refinement Process (5 Steps)

  1. Read the raw output — identify AI "tells" and generic phrasing
  2. Strip the fluff — remove filler, clichés, and abstractions
  3. Add specifics — insert numbers, names, actions, outcomes
  4. Restructure — break into scannable format (headers, bullets, numbered steps)
  5. Tone check — shift from corporate/formal to direct/conversational
